OK, Gooniphiles, this one should tickle your truffles: GOONIE HOUSE GUIDED TOURS will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 368 38th St. The tour will cost a minimum $10 donation for adults, but Gooniphiles younger than 12, who are accompanied by an adult, can take the tour for free.
The HAMPTON INN is providing their parking lot and location to host the event, and there will be a shuttle to the house. SANDI PRESTON, current owner of the house, will be giving the tours.
All proceeds will go to GATEWAY COMMUNITY CHURCHs anti-human trafficking project, FACES INTERNATIONAL (http://facesinternational.org), which SARAH PATENAUDE and VANESSA MARSHALL will be on hand to answer questions about.
For history buffs: You can read a fascinating and detailed history of the house by JOHN GOODENBERGER at http://tinyurl.com/goonhousehist
Originally the HANS E. STEFFENSEN house, and later inhabited by several notables, including ERNEST (the hard-working son-in-law of GERTRUDE THOMPSON), who was president of the Hen-Pecked Husbands of America.
Uppertown was not for the finicky, the historian wrote. The people who lived there were stout of heart and mind. And never said die, either, most likely.
