The suspect in the stabbing death of Lake Oswego resident Fritz Hayes was arrested at 2 o’clock today in Corvallis.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts says U.S. Marshals found Meiser in front of a Super 8 Hotel in Corvallis. Erik John Meiser was taken into custody without incident. He’s been the subject of a multi-state manhunt all week.

The arrest was the result of a tip, but the Sheriff couldn’t yet say who made the report, or where Meiser has been all week.  But Roberts pointed to Meiser’s string of prior arrests across several states:

“Looking at his history,” Roberts said, “he has spent s substantial amount of time in the penitentiary and correctional facilities. Looking at the crimes committed, we felt he was an extremely high risk.”

Sheriff’s staff said Meiser was taken by surprise, and was taken into custody quickly.

Meiser will be held at the Clackamas County jail at least until his arraignment. He’ll be placed on suicide watch, as are all suspects arrested for Measure 11 crimes.
