A former apartment complex on Agate Street that was in a partially-uninhabitable and dilapidated condition last year has been rehabilitated by a previous winner of the green project of the year and will be hosting an open house Saturday to show it off.

CPS Property Management will offer burgers and hot dogs for the neighborhood that has had to suffer from the decay of the building and the eye sore of what it was, Property Manager Donald Smack said.

The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. will serve as a kickstart of the new rental units that are nearly available.

The condition of the building was pretty poor. The ceilings in some of the units had collapsed. The building was known as a kind of drug house apartment building that was all overgrown and neglected, Smack said. Now, it looks pretty darn good.

The apartment building is located at 616 Agate St., and was redone by Rich Elstrom of Rick Elstrom Construction.

Elstrom previously won the green project of the year for a cottage in Cannon Beach by the National Association of Home Builders.

Were hosting the open house to let neighbors and people know theres been a change, Smack said.

The apartments, two of which have been rented out already, are two bedrooms and one bathroom units with a stellar view. Eight are still available and three will be open Saturday for viewing.
