ASTORIA Mise en Place Kitchenware is celebrating its fifth anniversary July 6 and 7 with sales throughout the store.

Mise en Place is partnering with Astoria Sunday Market for the “Shop Astoria!” Glass Coin promotion and will be distributing a limited number of the glass coins created by Fernhill Glass during their anniversary weekend. The glass coins are good for discounts at Mise En Place, Klassy Kloset, Purple Cow Toys and any vendor at Astoria Sunday Market.

Mise en Place Kitchenware opened 5 years ago when Chris and Jennifer Holen, owners of Astoria’s Baked Alaska Restaurant & Lounge, partnered up with Jennifer’s mom Linda Huff to open up a retail kitchenware store with a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes.

The name, Mise en Place, translates into a place for everything and everything in its place.

Over the past five years, Mise en Place has become the place where gourmet, professional and home chefs find useful and hard-to-find culinary tools. Mise En Place has developed its own line of sea salt Chef Daddy SEAsoning and has hosted dozens of cooking classes and demonstrations for visitors and locals alike.

One of their special programs is the Foragers Feast produced in partnership with Astoria Sunday Market. Participants join “Chef Daddy” Chris Holen of Baked Alaska Restaurant as he sends them on a culinary journey through Astoria Sunday Market to find a prized collection of ingredients for a special Sunday meal prepared at Mise En Place.
