JADE MORTON, a horse trainer for more than 30 years, only has 90 days to change mustang BEBE, a 3-year-old mare from the Stinkingwater herd in Eastern Oregon, from wild to mild.
Hes one of the trainers competing in this years EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER (www.extrememustangmakeover. com), produced by the Mustang Heritage Foundation with the support of the Bureau of Land Managements Wild Horse & Burro program.
Jade is participating with the help of his sponsors, The Bent Needle Inc., Undercover Coffee, Columbia River Custom Leather Repair, Farmhouse Funk and Brims Farm & Garden.
The trainers picked up their wild horses at the end of March, and will vie for a $12,500 purse with their newly gentled equines in a series of handling, conditioning and maneuvering tests at an event held from June 28 to July 1 in Albany.
A few eagle fans and Jade and Bebe are pictured in May, about halfway through her training, hanging out at the beach at Fort Stevens.
From her Facebook page (http://tinyurl.com/jadenbebe), which also has more photos and videos: Bebe faced her greatest challenge yet overcoming the crowds at the Peter Iredale shipwreck beach on Memorial Day weekend! Business as usual for her, she loves meeting people and was completely fascinated with the huge paraglider soaring only 30 feet over her head.
Its going good, Jade noted, and the horse I got is awesome.
All of the trained mustangs will be available for adoption after the competition. Would you like to adopt the lovely Bebe? You can apply here: http://tinyurl.com/applybebe
