Each week, CBS’s popular reality TV show “Undercover Boss” follows a different executive as they leave the comfort of their corner office to examine the inner workings of their companies in a roll-up-your-sleeves environment. On April 13, Chad Hallock, CEO of Budget Blinds, steps up to the plate in what is sure to be an entertaining and enlightening experience. The episode will feature Chad trading in his suit for a Budget Blinds polo shirt as he works hands-on in the window covering manufacturing process and then goes door to door, taking part in customer consultations and product installations.
While Hallock will most likely be working undercover in California, Budget Blinds franchisees around the country are excited about the national exposure “Undercover Boss” will bring to the company.
Not only is this a great opportunity to help grow our individual franchises, its a great opportunity for the company as a whole, said Madelyn Harris of Budget Blinds of the Oregon Coast. “Budget Blinds corporate is expecting to have a spike in customer calls” like other companies featured by the show, she said.
Being on Undercover Boss will give Chad valuable insight into franchisee day to day operations that he is sure to incorporate into all future communications and initiatives, Harris added.
In 1992, Hallock co-founded Budget Blinds with his brother, three friends and $5,000. Today, the company has grown to become the largest window coverings franchise in North America. Budget Blinds now finds itself invaluably positioned in a multi-billion dollar industry that is expected to grow by 6 percent in the coming years.
Although Hallock began on the front lines, his years behind the desk are sure to make an impact on his performance on the show. When I was approached with the opportunity, I took it without hesitation, he said. To be able to work with the franchisees that have made this company a success was something I could not pass up — even though I havent taken part in an in-home consultation or installed a blind in quite some time!
The episode airs on CBS April 13 at 8 p.m. For a sneak peak at Hallock’s transformation, check out this preview on Youtube.
