WARRENTON Santa will arrive in a fire truck for the city of Warrenton’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting, which is set for 4 p.m. Dec. 4 in the quad outside the Warrenton post office.

The free family-friendly event is sponsored by Warrenton Business Association, and includes Christmas caroling, refreshments, an opportunity for photos with Santa and small gifts for the youngest children. The children will also have an opportunity to enter the Best Photo Contest to win a grand prize of a $50 savings bond, donated by the Bank of Astoria.

“It’s a chance to celebrate family and community and all the things that are special about the holiday season and our town,” said WBA board member Kristin Talamantez, Warrenton branch manager for the Bank of Astoria.

The WBA board is a group of local business leaders appointed by the city commission to advise the commission and make decisions about ways to improve the city’s business climate. The group is looking for people to help put up the tree and other decorations. “It’s a real unifying community event,” said WBA board member Pat O’Grady, owner of Warrenton Auto & Marine Repair. Volunteers from Astoria’s Christmas Club, Pacific Power, the Warrenton Fire Department and local businesses all pitch in to make it a success.

Those able to help put up decorations are urged to contact O’Grady at (503) 861-2791 or meet at his repair shop behind Warrenton Mini Mart at 9 a.m. Saturday.
