Southern Oregon University police in Ashland have warned students to travel in pairs if they use a bike path where a 23-year-old was found slain on Saturday.

Authorities believe David Grubbs was killed on the Central Ashland Bike Path 30 minutes before his body was found with wounds to the head and neck, the Medford Mail Tribune reports

Police have declined to say what weapon they believe was used in the attack, except to say it was large and had a sharp edge.

The police have not identified a suspect or person of interest.

The university recommends students inform others before they use the bike path, carry a flashlight, whistle and carry a cell phone if traveling at night.
