CANNON BEACH Bill and Diana Pappas and John and Sandy Newman have announced that the Newmans will take over the Pappas space at 240 N. Hemlock St. in Cannon Beach.

The Pappas have decided to retire their restaurant, JPs at Cannon Beach, after nearly 18 years in business. The restaurant began in the Cannon Beach hotel location in 1994, and moved to the current location in 2004. The Newmans will take over the lease as of Oct. 1.

The Newmans concept, although in its earliest stages, is named FISHES Sushi and Japanese Inspired Cuisine, and will feature Asian-style meats, vegetarian and sushi dishes, based on John Newmans experience at Silks Restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco and FISHES Seafood and Steaks in Pacific City.

An opening date has been tentatively set for Nov. 1. The Newmans will continue to operate Newmans at 988 at 988 S. Hemlock St. in Cannon Beach.
