Coos Bay The Oregon Student Assistance Commission recently announced the recipients of the annual Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission Scholarships from their headquarters in Eugene.

Dillion Moreland of Knappa High School was selected to receive a $1,000 award, based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and community involvement. Moreland plans to attend the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, and finished his senior year with a 3.85 GPA.

The annual scholarships are available to graduating seniors who plan on enrolling in a post-high school educational program and who are dependents of commercial crab fishermen in the state. The awards included one in honor of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife crab biologist Neil Richmond, who died in a diving accident off Port Orford reef in 1999.
