The River People Farmers Market, an all-food farmers market, will open on Thursday at 1343 Duane St., in Astoria. It is scheduled to run every Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. through September.

A project of the North Coast Food Web, the market will focus on making fresh produce and local food products more readily available to North Coast residents and to lower-income residents in particular.

It will offer fresh, farm-grown produce and flowers, farm-raised eggs, farm-grown plant starts, locally caught fish, and only producer made, value-added or ready-to-consume food products will be sold.

Vendors will include Kingfisher Farma, Skipanon Brand Seafood, La Na Conscious Farm, Lazy Creek Farm, The Blue Scorcher Bakery, A & B Berry Farm, 46 North Farm, Love Warrior Gardens, Silverleaf Farm and Jacobs Creamery.

In addition, education about fresh food preparation and recipes will be provided at an information booth to encourage greater consumption of fresh whole foods.

To make this grower/seller farmers market possible, North Coast Food Web has partnered with the Astoria Co-op, The Blue Scorcher Bakery, Coast Community Radio, Oregon State University Extension Service, Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank and Astoria Indoor Garden Supply.

The market is all-volunteer and will accept SNAP cards and WIC and Farm Direct Nutrition Program coupons.

The North Coast Food Web is a nonprofit community food system whose mission is to cultivate healthy communities and a thriving regional economy through the production of local agriculture throughout the region.
