Memorial Day weekend rummage sale set at White Clover Grange

NEHALEM The White Clover Grange, located between Nehalem and Wheeler on Oregon Highway 53, will hold a rummage sale through 5 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for Memorial Day weekend. Funds raised will be used to support 4-H programs for youth and help improve the building to assure continued community access to the historic building for events.

The grange received a $7,000 grant from the Tillamook Public Utility District for a project to alleviate groundwater flooding in the historic buildings basement kitchen and dining hall. Foundation drains will be installed along the east wall of the building and drainage will be improved up-slope on the grange property.

Other work to be done, in particular, repairs to the belfry, which currently leaks, posing a potential for long-term structural damage. Grange members are seeking community support to make those repairs this summer.

One of the ways people can help these projects move forward is to come to the rummage sale, always a major source of financial support for the grange and a way for people to find bargains.

Like many other granges, White Clover has experienced resurgence during the last few years as middle-aged and younger people have stepped forward to provide time and energy to support the organization. A volunteer work party painted the exterior of the grange hall in 2009, beginning a surge of activity at the hall.

The building is available for rental for events; contact Grange Master Marie Scovell at (503) 368-5674.
