Classy Canines looks at training adults, too

Adults who wish to gain some experience in training their dog in a structured group setting can attend a 6 to 6:45 p.m. Monday class, offered by Classy Canines 4-H Club to a few interested adults and their dogs. The meetings will be held May 9, 16 and 23 at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds.

Participants will learn exercises to teach their dogs to come, sit, down, stand, stay, and heel. Club members who want to practice these basics will be participating as well. Classy Canines has a positive training style: lots of treats and praise and no jerking, scolding, or hitting.

The club asks for a $40 donation for this opportunity. Funds will be used to buy pet oxygen masks for local fire departments. Three sets of masks have already been donated through two similar previous opportunities.

The first five adults to confirm with Sally Freeman at (503) 325-7161 or youngsriver@yahoo.com will be invited to participate and will be assigned a homework exercise to do with their dog daily for one week before the first class.
