TAPIOLA PARK PLAYGROUND

Take the kids for an afternoon of exploration at the unique Astoria playground, which received the 2005 Award for Excellence by the League of Oregon Cities. Build it and they will come, could have been the motto for the community wide effort to build a unique playground replicating the Astoria Column, the Liberty Theater, Fort Clatsop and other area landmarks. In the span of two weeks, a whirlwind of activity by volunteers completed the one-of-a-kind educational superplayground.
The park is located on the southwestern edge of town across from Youngs Bay on West Marine Drive, near Astoria High School. A skate park is on the premises in the former swimming pool.
