The Goonie Jeep will return

Gooniephile and avid Astoria fan JAESON KOSZARSKY wrote to the Ear to inquire about the replica of the JEEP CHEROKEE driven by the FRATELLI FAMILY in “THE GOONIES,” which was on display when he and his wife, JENNIFER, came to the movie’s 25th anniversary here last summer. Pictured, the couple with the Jeep.
Owned by DAMON CROWE, the car has been signed by several Goonie cast members, and even features details like bullet holes. When Damon needed to find a new home for it, he asked the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Clatsop County Historical Society if they were interested in securing it for Astoria.
The Jeep has been paid for, and executive director of the Chamber SKIP HAUKE’s nephew, DALE LATIMER, co-owner of Ram Trucking in Brownsville, has volunteered to bring the vehicle from the Los Angeles area to Astoria at no charge.
It will be on display in front of the Oregon Film Museum in nice weather, and possibly driven in parades. A plan needs to be worked out to keep it accessible, but at the same time, safe.
“We are taking donations from fans and community members through our website to help cover the cost of the Jeep and to start a maintenance fund for it,” said REGINA WILLKIE of the Chamber. To donate, go to http://tinyurl.com/payjeep
