LANDRA KRISTY of Nevada sent the Ear a clipping from the Southern California AAA WESTWAYS magazine, January/February 2011 edition. In the Out&About section, there is an entry by AL BONOWITZ, editor-in-chief for AAAs Hawaii Westways magazine, called ASTORIA ACTION:
… This year, Astoria, Oregon, commemorates its bicentennial. Perched on a wooded hillside overlooking the mouth of the Columbia River, this town of 10,000 was once known as the salmon-canning capital of the world. Still a working fishing town, it also offers fine dining, art galleries and well-preserved Victorian homes. Three major celebrations will highlight a yearlong schedule of events that includes fishing and logging demonstrations, concerts, parades and museum exhibits.
He lists the website, www.astoria200.org (nice plug) and goes on to recommend the Astoria Bicentennial Opening Event, Astoria Regatta and Astoria Bicentennial Super Homecoming. Way to go, Astoria.
