CLATSKANIE The Great Vow Zen Monastery, located at 79640 QuincyMayger Road in Clatskanie, will hold a Beginners Mind Retreat, led by the Great Vow Zen Monastery staff, from 5 p.m. Dec. 17 to 1 p.m. Dec. 19. 

During the weekend a monastic schedule will be followed. All elements of a meditation retreat will be covered, including basic meditation techniques, posture, breathing, formal meals and dealing with obstructions.

The cost is $150 plus donation, $120 for Zen Community of Oregon/Dharma Rain Zen Center members or $75 for students and includes dormitory accommodations and all vegetarian meals.
