The Malama Day Spa, owned by Riki Leona Fleischmann and located in the second story of the Pier 11 building at 77 11th St., Suite 200, opened Oct. 8 with a staff consisting of three estheticians and a massage therapist. Two of the master estheticians have 1,200 hours of esthetic training. Services offered include facials, waxing, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, massage, makeup and eyelash extensions.
“I am a Coast Guard wife, makeup artist and esthetician,” said Fleischmann, who is from Hawaii. “I decided to create my own day spa – a place for people to come and completely relax and get pampered and leave feeling like Jello.”
“I definitely wanted to bring some Aloha to my spa and to Astoria,” she explained. “Malama, in Hawaiian, means to care, and it encompasses all that we do. I wanted to create a different spa than most people are used to, not stuffy, not corporate, but a very warm, relaxing, inviting environment where you can get pampered but also be educated on your skin’s health and well being.”
The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Special appointment times are available by request. The spa honors a 10 percent military discount, and there is a 20 percent discount on a first treatment.
