Obituaries: Daniel Joseph ‘Dan’ Dugan

Daniel Joseph “Dan” Dugan, 47, of Cornelius, formely of Astoria, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, in Beaverton, of Fabry disease.

He was born Feb. 14, 1963, in Astoria, to Joe and Geraldine (Varner) Dugan. His father and stepmother, Judy Dugan, survive, residing in Astoria. His mother preceded him in death.

In 1981, he graduated from Astoria High School, where he played in the school band. He received an accounting degree from the University of Portland.

In 1991, he married Beverly Sharp at the Grotto in Portland. She survives, residing in Cornelius. The couple lived for a short time in Tigard before settling in Cornelius.

Mr. Dugan began his accounting career with Outward Bound then moved to Ness & Company. He taught for a short period of time at Western Business College in Portland, then finally worked for Stimson Lumber Company.

Family members said he kept score for the Portland Pilots basketball and enjoyed playing cards, baseball and football. He also enjoyed National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. He was an avid watcher of TV sitcoms, especially “The Simpsons” and “Two and a Half Men.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, JW and Alexa Dugan; three brothers, Mike Dugan of Eugene, Tim Dugan of Astoria and Chris Dugan of Seaside; two sisters, one in Alaska and one in Texas; three stepbrothers, one in Astoria, one in Washington and one in Mt. Angel; and a stepsister in Warrenton.

He was preceded in death by a father-in-law, Bill Sharp.

A mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at St. Alexander Catholic Church, 170 N. 10th St. in Cornelius.
