Vernon “Vern” Rodrick Hill, 88, died Sept. 3 in Seaside.

The son of Albert and Anna (Wilen) Hill, Vernon was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Hamlet, Ore. Vern was a graduate of Oregon State University with a bachelor of science in Engineering.
He married Doris Barkham on July 25, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for two years and was a mechanical engineer at the Hanford Nuclear Facility. He retired in 1972.

Vern was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Cannon Beach, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Oregon State University Alumni Association.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a quiet man who loved his family and church. He was always available to help those in need.
He is survived by his wife Doris; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Charlotte Hill of Seaside; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Donald Neet of Eugene; grandsons Alan (Misha) LeClair of Walnut Creek, Calif., Nathan (Mary) LeClair of Medford, Kevin (Sarah) LeClair of Portland, Samuel (Justine) Hill of Gearhart, and Andrew (Kari) Hill of Milwaukie; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Peter Hill.
A funeral will be held at the Cannon Beach Presbyterian Church Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Private interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
