Obituaries: Lester Ray Macdonald

Lester Ray Macdonald, 83, of Seaside, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Seaside.

He was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Portland, to William and Agnes (Kimel) Macdonald.

He graduated from Jefferson High School and attended college.

For two years, he served in the U.S. Navy.

On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Martha Macdonald in Portland. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Macdonald was a salesman at United Grocers. He retired March 31, 1989.

He was a member of a contract bridge league.

Family members said he enjoyed playing contract bridge, clamming and working in his yard. They said he was very loyal to his family.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Jill Macdonald of Moses Lake, Wash., and Eric and Kathleen Macdonald of Ahola; two sisters, Pat Mathis of Oregon City and Rhea Davis of Walla Walla, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother Dick Macdonald; and a daughter, Denise Belt.

A private graveside service will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Seaside is in charge of the arrangements.
