SEASIDE – There will be a memorial concert for longtime Cannon Beach guitarist Greg Sage from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Relief Pitcher Tavern. Musicians scheduled to perform include Larry Sage, Charlie Raw, Tom Wallis, Al Campbell, Troy Hunt, Patrick “PL” Lines, Gordon Reynolds, Guy Cariglio, Terry Duoos, Carl McLaughlin, John Police, Mark Bugas, Ray Raihala and more. The concert will be a memorial of rock ‘n’ roll in Sage’s honor and to raise money for his headstone, to be placed at the cemetery at Beerman Creek Road. There is a $5 cover charge and it is a 21 and older venue.

Said Melinda Sage: “I have lived in the Theater District in Manhattan for eight years. I have worked at Carnegie Hall onstage and backstage for 10 years. I have performed, produced and toured all over the globe with many of the finest musicians in all the world. I can honestly say that the time I spent with my father, I happened to learn more about music and what music meant to people than with anyone I have ever met. There is only one Greg Sage.”

For five decades Sage “lived” music. With his younger brother Larry on bass, drums and vocals, Sage was a mesmerizing profound stylist, incorporating thrilling leads and powerhouse rhythm on the electric guitar. The Sage Brothers Band was also known as The Breakers, The Tiffany Brothers, The Sand Fleas and The Rogues, and played venues from the Coaster Theatre to the American Legion to the Sand Trap, as well as local charities and events for children of all ages. At least a hundred musicians in Clatsop County were members of that band in its many different forms at one time or another.

When Clare Bruce, Tom Wallis, Charlie Raw, Al Campbell and other members collaborated, the band became known as The Washington Merry Go Round or The Family Blood, and starred with such musicians as Gene Vincent, Buddy Knox, The Kingsmen, B.B. King, Paul Revere and The Raiders and many others.
