Staples Inc. Public Relations Director Amy Shanler announced Tuesday that her company will be building a 14,000-square foot office supply store on property alongside U.S. Highway 101 and across Ensign Lane from Home Depot in Warrenton.

The store size is tailored for a smaller community, she said, while larger Staples super-stores are 18,000 to 20,000 square feet.

It will offer a full assortment of office supplies, technology, copy and print services, tech services and computer repair, and it will employ 20 full- and part-time associates. Shanler said she didn’t know how many of the jobs will be full-time and how many will be part-time.

The store won’t be as fully stocked as some Staples, particularly in the area of furniture, but it will have a Staples.com kiosk where customers can order additional products online and get free shipping that is often available with next-day delivery, according to Shanler.

As for the reason Staples decided to set up shop in Warrenton, Shanler said: “We look for opportunities where there is an unmet need in the market for the breadth of services we offer to help home businesses and consumers, and an area where we can balance out our small-business customers with families who need to come in for back to school and other supplies.”

Staples is leasing the land from First Western Development Services of Edmonds, Wash., which has purchased 5.5 acres from Home Depot and is beginning construction on three buildings for Staples, Big Five Sporting Goods and Dollar Tree at the site.

O’Reilly Auto Parts is buying part of the property to build its own store next door.
