Obituaries: Russell Clark ‘Russ’ Amey

Russell Clark “Russ” Amey, 82, of Forest Grove, formerly of Seaside and Tillamook, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Jennings McCall Assisted Living in Forest Grove.
He was born Aug 27, 1927, in Enterprise, to Gene C. and Wilma A. (Hart) Amey.
He attended Enterprise High School.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the 1504th AAF Base Unit. He was a flight engineer be-tween Hawaii and Japan after the war. He received his discharge on Aug. 4, 1947, with the rank of corporal.
On March 11, 1950, he married Marilyn Smogard in Vancouver, Wash. She survives, residing in Forest Grove. The couple resided in Seaside until 1973, when they moved to Tillamook for 37 years. They recently moved to Forest Grove.
Mr. Amey worked as a construction supervisor for Crown-Zellerbach in Seaside and Tillamook for 34 years and took early retirement. He later worked part-time for Ken Fallon Logging Company in Tillamook until he was 64 years old.
He served as a volunteer fireman for the Seaside Fire Department for 15 years and was a charter-member of the Tillamook Elks Lodge. He also served as a past-president of the International Woodworkers of America union local in Seaside.
Family members said his hobbies included hunting, fishing, clamming and trail riding on his horse. He was also an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Paul Nelson of Forest Grove and Susan and Mark Robison and Tamara and Dan Afrasiabi, all of Lake Oswego; a brother, Harold Amey, of Gladstone; two sisters, Karen Rossi of Seaside and Lois Fall of Los Angeles; six grandchildren, Ryan Nelson and his wife, Michelle, of Dickinson, Texas, Andrew Nelson of Portland, Caitlyn Nelson of Forest Grove, Tyler Robison and Max Afrasiabi, both of Lake Oswego, and Colin Robison of Eugene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Trudi Olson.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25 at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home, 2308 Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove.
