Obituaries: Dwight Curo Jr.

Dwight Curo Jr., 61, of Chinook, Wash., died suddenly Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Portland.

He was born April 14, 1949, in Brainerd, Minn., to Dwight M. Curo Sr. and Gertrude R. (McLaughin) Curo. His parents preceded him in death. He was raised in various cities because of his father’s career in the military. 

He studied acting in California, and attended Clatsop Community College, where he received a degree in maritime science.

He married Sandra Wage. She survives, residing in Chinook.

Mr. Curo worked for Leisure Time and Trendwest Resorts in Seaside as a salesman. He also worked at various car dealerships in Clatsop County, and for Foss and Crowley Marine Services until he was unable to work due to ill health. 

Family members said his hobbies included playing bridge, fishing, the stock market, acting and walking his dog in the park.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Chelsea and Peter Gertenrich of West Linn and Alexandria Curo of Las Vegas; two grandsons, Jack and Joe Gertenrich of West Linn; a sister, Mary M. McIntyre of Seattle; two nephews, Joe McIntyre of Seattle and Dirk Wood of Portland; three nieces, Megan McIntyre of Seattle, Brennan Wood of Portland and Toby Wood of Atlanta; a brother-in-law, Frank Wood of Portland; an aunt, Delores McLaughin of Gearhart; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris E. Wood.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
