We stopped at two north-coast bakeries on the way south, the first entrants in our judging. Both were tips from Seattle Times readers (an expansive thank you — and I do mean expansive, in the belt-loosening sense).

Readers raved about the Pacific Way Cafe in Gearhart, and so we moseyed off 101 (you do a lot of moseying in a motorhome) into the toney center of the village (it’s too small and a little highbrow to be called a mere town).
