Tsunami Sandwich Co. opens in Seaside, focuses on quality fare

David Posalski, owner of the newly opened Tsunami Sandwich Company, believes that quality foods that are reasonably priced and healthy, too, will attract waves of customers to his shop located just steps from Seaside’s famed “turnaround.”

“Most [food businesses] here are focused on the tourist trade and offer [mostly] seafood or fried foods,” he said. “What we offer are deli foods that are made with good, quality products that are a healthy alternative.”

Posalski and his wife, Britnie, opened Tsunami Sandwich Company Feb. 9. The shop is located on the first floor of The Resort at Seaside along Broadway Street.

Although he and his wife are sharing the duties for now, Posalski said he hopes in time to hire four to six employees.

Posalski uses only freshly-prepared premium meats in his sandwiches, all of which are shipped from Thumann’s, a long-established East Coast manufacturer of delicatessen products. The meat products are trans-fat-free and don’t contain MSG, by-products, fillers, gluten, artificial flavors or colors.

All the meats are freshly cut for each order and also can be purchased by the pound.

The shop offers a selection of more than 15 hot or cold deli sandwiches served with a choice of cole slaw or chips, with most prices ranging from $7 to just over $8. The popular half-pound Tsunami Pastrami is just over $10, while the full-pound Mega Tsunami Pastrami is $15.25.

The menu also includes steamed or grilled all-beef hot dogs, Italian sausage and bratwurst, as well as Ivars clam chowder, a house-recipe chili and a choice of at least two homemade soups each day. The shop also offers a kids’ menu.

And a visit to the Oregon coast wouldn’t be complete without an ice cream cone. Tsunami Sandwich Company offers a selection of more than 15 flavors of Tillamook Ice Cream.

By summer, Posalski said he hopes to offer local delivery service to customers.
