A visit to the North Coast can be full of surprises. Not only will you encounter new and exhilarating sights, events and knowledge; there is also a chance you may run into a variety of unpredictable climatic conditions – everything from occasional heavy rains in the summer to warm, balmy days in the winter.

So, bearing in mind the experiences of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, it is a good idea to embark on your own voyage of discovery well-equipped to weather any conceivable atmospheric condition, as well as adventuresome occurrences. A few things you might wish to pack include:

? Layered clothing, for days when you can’t be sure what will happen

? Sunglasses, for the glare off the water

? Raincoat, for the spray off a charter boat bow, or a sudden squall

? Swimsuit, for a dip in a lake or pool

? Binoculars, for whales, birding and scenery

? Wildlife/bird books, for help with identification

? Hiking boots, to surmount our hills and trails

? Sandals, for tide-pool exploration

? Beach bucket/shovel, for building sandcastles

? Journal, to record your adventures

? Camera, to remember it all

With these preparations made, you’ll be ready for all the region has to offer you.

Be sure to check local interpretive sites and bookstores for even more maps and information.
