Seaside’s biggest loser

Join the community group dedicated to losing weight the right way. Sponsored by Providence Seaside Hospital and Sunset Empire Parks and Recreation District, the free group offers support, tips and tactics for losing weight while having fun. Participants can choose to opt in to a prize/penalty phase for additional motivation.
Begins: Friday, March 12 (First Weigh-ins).
Ends: Friday, May 14 (Final Weigh-ins).
Cost: $10
Weight loss will be based on percentage lost, not pounds. Weigh-in’s will be every Friday to determine the weekly and final top tow winners.

1. Challenge Period:
Seaside Biggest Loser Challenge begins March 12, 2010 and ends May 14, 2010.
2. Eligibility:
Challenge is open to all residents of Clatsop County and surrounding areas.
3. How to Enter:
To Enter In Person: To enter, visit Sunset Pool, the Human Resources department at Providence Seaside Hospital or the Providence Medical Group – Warrenton, fill in responses to all of the information requested on the entry form, including name, e-mail address, mailing address and telephone number. Sign-ups begin March 2, 2010.
The cost to participate is $10 (checks made out to SEPRD).
(Late entries will be accepted. Note: you will be at a disadvantage
due to less time to complete challenge.)

4. Weekly Weigh In:
All weigh-ins will take place on Fridays, unless otherwise individually determined due to vacation, etc.
There are three weigh-in locations. You must continue to weigh in at your original location. Example: If you weigh in on March 12 at Sunset Pool, you must continue to weigh in at Sunset Pool each week.
Locations/Hours:
Sunset Pool Lobby – 5:45 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Providence Medical Group-Warrenton – 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Human Resource Department Providence Seaside Hospital (PSH) – 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.*
*PSH Night shift/Satellite locations – you may be weighed by a supervisor who can weigh you and e-mail the results to gary.terranova@providence.org. If you are competing for the cash prize, your starting weigh-in and your ending weigh-in MUST be done on the scale in the HR department.
All participants will be asked to remove shoes, jackets, sweatshirts, belts and items from pockets during each weigh-in. Your success is measured by the percentage of weight you lose, not pounds. If a participant weighs 200 pounds at the beginning of the competition and loses 20 pounds they will have lost 10% of their body weight. This method of measurement is to ensure fairness for all participants.
5. Rewards:
There will be two cash prizes, first and second place prizes will be awarded to the two biggest losers – which will be determined by percentage of body weight lost between Friday, March 12, 2010 and Monday, May 14, 2010. Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: first place wins 60 percent of the pot and second place wins 40 percent of the pot. Cash reward will be determined by number of participating entries. If you do not weigh-in on May 14, 2010 you will not be eligible to win, unless you weigh in before May 14.
Each week the top two losers of the week will receive rewards (please see calendar). Rewards will vary between gift certificates, pool/gym admissions, etc. Weekly prize winners will be notified by email to collect their prize. To win prizes you must continually lose weight with no gains.
6. General Conditions:
Please consult with your physician or health care provider before starting any new exercise, nutrition, or supplement program, particularly if you suffer from any medical condition or regularly use prescription or over-the-counter medications.
