The Cape Disappointment Historic District’s scenic loop offers sights of Cape Disappointment State Park, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, North Head and Cape Disappointment lighthouses, the North Jetty and Waikiki Beach. The park, formerly Fort Canby, was built in the 1860s to help guard the Columbia River’s entrance. Camping, hiking and biking are available. For more information, call (360) 642-3078. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is located on top of two silent gun emplacements. The center offers a view of the mouth of the Columbia River, as well as a extensive exhibits of the Lewis and Clark Expedition including items owned by Sgt. Patrick Gass. For information, call (360) 642-3029.
