Jean S. Buerk, 90, of Seaside, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Nehalem Valley Care Center in Wheeler.

She was born May 5, 1919, in Bay City, to Ione and Harold Hickerson.

In 1937, she graduated from Seaside High School.

On Jan. 11, 1944, she married F. Vernon Buerk in Seaside. He preceded her in death July 21, 1998.

Mrs. Buerk was a homemaker, cake decorator and owner of Harrison’s Bakery.

She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Seaside.

Family members said she loved to knit, read, play piano and travel.

She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Val and Utako Hickerson of Bandon and Robert and Andrea Hickerson of Yreka, Calif.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Buerk and Carey Buerk, all of Seaside, and Robert and Lori Buerk of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Gene Poppino of Taps Lake, Wash.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held.
