SEASIDE – A group of 13 performers demonstrated their talents Saturday to an audience of 250 at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. The competition winner was Russell Watson, a pharmacist at Providence Seaside Hospital, who performed “Frank Sinatra style” singing. First prize was $50 and a performance opportunity Jan. 15 at Barbershop Cabaret at the Convention Center.

Second place went to Rugburn, a three piece band of Seaside students: Maxx Strozzi, bass guitar and singer; John Strozzi, drums; and Mitchell Stephens, guitar. Charmae de Boer was awarded third place for classical piano playing.

Judges for the event were Mary Blake of Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District, Seaside Chief of Police Bob Gross and Wendy Richardson of The Daily Astorian. John Chapman of KCBZ 94.9 Music Matters was the show emcee.

Attendees were invited to bring food or cash donations that went to the South County Food Bank. Approximately 80 pounds of food and a little more $157 was collected.

Alan Smiles, executive director of the Seaside Chamber of Commerce, presenters of the event, said, “This a great way to entertain the community and a great way to give something back to the community through the donations to the food bank. The talent was diversified and first class. The judges had great comments for the performers and John Chapman kept things lively. We hope to do this again.”
