Robert I. “Bob” Tardiff, 79, of Monmouth, formerly of Clatsop County, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at home.

He was born May 17, 1930, in Stevens Point, Wis., to Henry and Mae Tardiff.
He graduated from Grant High School and attended Lewis and Clark College.
In 1949, he married Winnie Gaylord. She survives, residing in Monmouth.

Mr. Tardiff retired from the Portland Police Bureau after 29 years of service. After retiring, he lived in Clatsop County just outside of Seaside for 14 years.
He was a past master of the Friendship Lodge and Evergreen Lodge, and a past worthy patron of the Maple Chapter.
Family members said he loved playing the trumpet, wood carving, camping and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bob and Chuck Tardiff; three daughters, Janet Tardiff, Lorna Willis and Lana Buchanan; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.
River View Cemetery Funeral Home in Portland is in charge of the arrangements.
