Harvest Moon on my heels

Why dont people take pride in their spelling anymore?

On TV there was an ad for the movie, 101 Dalmatians, spelled with an O. -Not the first time-like this: Dalmation. I felt like marking their paper and giving them a goose egg. What I really intended to do was write Hallmark TV a letter and complain.     Imagine my pleasure in a few days to discover that someone did get through and Hallmark changed the word to its correct spelling.

Im sure there are many people like me who deplore the degradation of our language which occurs so regularly on TV and often in print-glaring mistakes in grammar and pronunciation as well as spelling-obviously no pride in maintaining a method of speech which is fast disappearing. Too bad.

Trying to shop at Safeway during renovation is quite an experience. Its surprising how much can go on-I assume after hours. Things like painting, floor covering installation and structural changes. If it werent for the shopping chart which tells us where to find things, Id be up the creek.

Shine on Harvest Moon!  How can the rising full moon be at the end of 9th Ave., coming over the mountains as I start out and at the east end of 12th Ave., on the way home? It followed me. An illusion, no doubt.

If I havent taught you anything else this year, its to appreciate the dandelions in bloom along the highway and in empty lots and crevices wherever one goes.  Some of you who dont appreciate the fuzz balls settling in your grass are probably screaming. I feel for you but I cant reach you.

Citizen Snip it: Arnetta Covey is perhaps Seasides championship mother figure. Her former home was Leavenworth, WA where many family members still live. Arnetta and her late husband, Owen (Slim) Covey came to Seaside in 1960.

He cared for Arabian horses, at the farm at the bend of Lewis and Clark Road. There are old stories about this place, the people who owned it and the Hollywood star who was involved, but those are details which I have forgotten.     Five years earlier, Arnetta had had a kidney removed and has been thankful for good health ever since. She is 83 years old now and has been employed at the Ocean Front Motel for 33 years, beginning as housekeeper and today working in the laundry. She has 4 children, 13 grand-children, 22 great-grand-children and 4 great-greats with a couple more on the way.

Recently her family held a reunion at the City park. Upwards of 100 people came here. They enjoyed a barbeque at the park. I went to Arnettas 80th birthday party at the park and it was wall to wall kids and in-laws.     Theyre a great group. Arnetta is thankful that she can still work and take care of herself. Her children and their offspring hold her in high regard as do we and pray that she will be able to keep on keeping on for a long time. Go Girl.
