Two hundred years ago this month, Governor Meriwether Lewis died at a small Tennessee inn. In honor of Lewis’ life, Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, Fort Clatsop is pleased to announce the next installment of its In Their Footsteps free speakers series. The program is Meriwether Lewis’ Pacific Northwest Legacy Written in a Little Red Book by John C. Jackson on Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Netul River Room of the Fort Clatsop visitor center.

John C. Jackson has published five books on the fur trade, Metis and Indian History and is presently working on a history of the North West Company on the Pacific Slope. In association with Thomas C. Danisi, their biography Meriwether Lewis has recently been published. There are many books about Lewis’ 1804-1806 leadership of the Corps of Discovery, but this new book focuses on Lewis’ life before and after his famous expedition thus filling a gap in scholarship about expedition members.

Jackson and Danisi’s book is available for purchase at the Lewis and Clark National Park Association bookstore in the visitor center. Jackson will have a book-signing following his presentation.

This third Sunday forum is sponsored by the Lewis and Clark National Park Association and the National Park Service. These programs are held in the Netul River Room of Fort Clatsop’s visitor center and are free of charge.
