Valeria Ivette Montes Daza, of New Braunfels, Texas, formerly of Astoria, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas, of cancer.

She was born April 18, 1991, in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico, to Martin and Magdalena Montes. Her parents survive, residing in New Braunfels.
The family moved to Astoria in 1992, where Ms. Daza spent most of her life. She attended St. Mary, Star of the Sea School and Astoria High School. The family moved to New Braunfels in June 2007. She completed her two last years of high school in New Braunfels.
Family members said she loved to read, paint, watch sports and listen to music.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Natalia Montes of New Braunfels and Erika Montes of Seaside; a brother, Diego Montes of Mexico; two grandparents, Ciria Flores and Manuel Montes of Mexico; two uncles, Gustavo Ohrstrom and Isidro Daza of Seattle; and many aunts and uncles in Mexico, including many friends from Oregon and Texas.
