The Astoria Rotary Club will sponsor the 2009 Road Scholars Poker Run Sept. 12, for motorcycles or convertibles, starting at the Red Building near the Port of Astoria’s West Basin. The event begins with registration and departure between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The approximate 100-mile round trip ride will allow riders the chance to earn the winning poker hand, as participants pick up one playing card at each of five designated locations on the course. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Astoria Rotary Club’s annual scholarship program.
Each year the Rotary awards several cash scholarships to qualifying seniors at Astoria High School. For ABATE members, $10 of the entry fee will be donated to the Jimmy Parker Memorial Fund.
The entry fee is $25 per rider and $10 per passenger, and includes barbecue lunch, refreshments and music at the end of the ride. There is a prize for the winning hand and door prizes for many others.
