Learn the ‘Basics of Buddhism’

CLATSKANIE – The Great Vow Zen Monastery in Clatskanie will offer “Basics of Buddhism” from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday and Aug. 2, 9 and 16. The class will be led by Zen Community of Oregon senior students. The classes will explore the fundamental Buddhist teachings, including the Eightfold Path, impermanence, no-self, Nirvana and Karma. The practical aspects of meditation and ethical living will also be explored.

No pre-registration is necessary, and drop-ins are welcome. There is a suggested donation of $10 per class. For information, go to (www.zendust.org/basicsofbuddhism_GV.htm). The Seventh Annual 24-Hour Interfaith Chant for Peace will be held from 7 p.m. July 31 to 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the monastery.

Each hour of the Chant for Peace is led by a different spiritual tradition. There are times of seated chanting and times of walking. Anyone and everyone is invited to attend for any length of time. There are beds available for napping and a buffet table available for refreshment throughout the event.
