Pier 38 hotel project makes headway in Astoria

A new hotel project planned for the east end of Astoria is moving forward.

Earlier this spring, the City of Astoria granted the project, Pier 38 Marina & RV Park LLC, a permit extension for a height variance on the proposed complex, which will stand between 36 and 48 feet high.

The project needed a variance because the land it would be built upon is zoned Tourist-Oriented Shoreline, a designation which has a maximum structure height limit of 28 ft.

According to Astoria Community Development Director Brett Estes, building permits for the project have been submitted and are currently under review by the city.

Plans for the proposed hotel include an 80-room structure on the waterfront, south of the Astoria Riverwalk.

The proposed hotel site is near Cannery Lofts Condominiums and Pier 39, a restored cannery building on pilings over the river that houses a restaurant, coffee shop, a museum, a vacation rental and office space, among other amenities.
