New Seaside spa provides hair and skin treatment in a serene atmosphere

Is the coastal winter getting you down? A new salon and spa in Seaside’s historic Gilbert District may be just the ticket for lifting the weary spirits of locals as well as appealing to out-of-towners. Sensual Pleasures Salon and Spa officially opened in mid-March, and offers a full range of beautification services and products in a relaxing environment.
The business is located in the Kirwen Building at the corner of Broadway and Holladay. The Day Spa on Broadway previously occupied the 2,200 sq. ft. space before going out of business in late December 2008.
“My fiancĂ© and I decided to start Sensual Pleasures because of my passion for the industry,” said co-owner Katherine Watt, “but more importantly, because the people of Seaside had no spa to go to since the Day Spa closed down.”
Watt, a hairstylist in the area for the past seven years, has always dreamed of a single place in Clatsop County where she could get nail treatment, skin care, a massage and her hair styled.
“I thought it would be really nice if you could take care of everything in one place,” she said. “Sensual Pleasures is full service. We have three hairstylists, three nail technicians, two massage therapists and an esthetician, all under one roof.”
“We feel like being all inclusive really adds to the relaxing nature of this spa and salon.”
Local appeal was another aspect the two wanted to incorporate into the business.
“The majority of our customers so far have been tourists even though we did this because we saw a local need,” said Watts’ fiancĂ© and business partner, Dan White. “The treatment of locals is, and always will be, the most important aspect of this business.”
To entice locals, Sensual Pleasures is offering a 10 percent discount on services to area residents. It also accepts unused gift certificates from the Day Spa on Broadway for those who bought one, unaware that the business was planning to close.
Sensual Pleasures sports two private massage rooms, a couples massage room with an oversized Jacuzzi tub, an aloe vera body wrap room, full service hair salon, pedicure room and a cedar sauna. Each room is themed differently, yet has an elegant consistency.
Services range from $22 for a gentleman’s hair cut, to $235 for a 90 minute couples massage which includes refreshments such as fresh fruit and local wine, and therapeutic lighting. The aloe vera body wrap, provided by Oregon-based aloe vera farmers, promises to cleanse toxins associated with weight gain.
Sensual Pleasures offers an array of hair products from Alterna, Big Sexy, Schwarzkopf, Framesi, Redkin and Hempz. The business also sells a full line of skin care products from Plantogen.
