WHEELER – The Oregon and Southwest Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has awarded 23 organizations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington a total of $534,967 in community and transportation grants, which will help provide services to more than 24,000 men and women who are medically underserved. The Rinehart Clinic in Wheeler received a $3,500 transportation grant and a $20,000 community grant.

The Clinic’s Breast Health Project aims to build upon an existing project, continuing outreach at local food banks and through community presentations. The program also will continue intensive follow-up to determine if women receiving outreach get screened.

The Clinic staff, working in partnership with Tillamook County General Hospital, will coordinate a focus group of patients to determine barriers to accessible treatment. The transportation grant will remove one of the numerous obstacles to care and treatment that women in this county encounter, as the hospital is more than 40 miles away from some county locations.
