Why is there such a difference among Hawthorne trees? Some of them, early in May, are in full, fragrant bloom. Some are halfway blossoming and then there are those like mine which show nary a sign of flowers. I guess there is a time for everything under heaven.
It was good to get that donation from Uncle Sam, though Im not convinced of the wisdom of the move. Most days its no use to have a rich uncle.
The nicest thing happened to me on Thursday. I received a phone call from Charlie Brown Jackson, a high school friend of my son Garys. Charlie could tell you a lot about tsunamis. It was his family who were in Venice Park during the 60s when the Necanicum entered their home and chased them upstairs. Wow! Scary! We had a nice long chat about the old days and of the many changes each of us has known since then. It was like talking to one of my own kids. I considered the call a Mothers Day gift.
In the same nostalgic vein, Ky Jennings had told me about Karl Marlantes new book about Vietnam: Matterhorn. I look forward, not only to reading it, but to the reading of excerpts at the library on Tuesday. Karl was my daughter, Robins, classmate.
I wanted to attend Rae (Hardesty) Godicks memorial but couldnt find the address. The house where it might have been held had no cars around or sign of life so I came home.
Dont be among the also-rans or the too little, too late crowd. Get your entry now for the Ducky Derby at the Compass Community Bank. He just might come in first.
As I moved into the hospital access road one Sunday, it was good to see that whereas a large stand of buttercups was partially in the traffic pattern, they had still been left intact by the lawnmower a beautiful spot of sunshine for us to enjoy. I visited everyone in the hospital extended care and also went to Suzanne Elise for some time with old friends. It always does me more good than them.
Isnt it kinda cute that when NASA control or whoever is directing says to the spacemen when you do this and that, then youll be good to grapple in retrieving the Hubble telescope? Weve become a little blasé about our space program but think how wonderful it is for all this to be going on. Or think back how relatively short a time ago it was when we heard the eagle has landed! It was good enough for me just to shake the hand of Jim Irwin who walked on the moon.

You cant describe the parade from a hole in the fence.
After performing some vital tests on a retriever, the vet began to prepare his lab report.
