Kindergarten roundup will be held Thursday in Astoria

Parents of incoming kindergarten students who are living in the Astoria area are invited to John Jacob Astor Elementary School’s “Kindergarten Roundup” at 3:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. Thursday in the Astor School gym at 3550 Franklin Ave.
Parents will have the opportunity to meet the principal, the nurse and other personnel providing services to kindergarten students. Parents will also be able to hear about the full day Kindergarten option.
Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents need to bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate and immunization record.

There will be roundup orientations for incoming kindergarten students from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and 1 to 2:15 p.m. May 19 at Hilda Lahti Elementary School in Knappa. Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to attend school in the fall.
After spending 15 minutes with the children exploring the kindergarten classroom, parents will attend an informational meeting in the library about the kindergarten program.
The children will remain in the classroom to experience a modified kindergarten school day, including a story, art activity, recess, snack and a short bus ride.
Parents must bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate or proof of birth and immunization record to begin the registration process.
