Music grows on you like barnacles

From Keith Neal: “Alan Pierce, pictured above in costume as ‘Barnacle Bill the Sailor,’ was the guest soloist with the North Coast Symphonic Band during a recent concert at the Liberty Theater. Pierce played the song ‘Variations of Barnacle Bill’ with the NCSB on his bass trombone. His solo was a delightful and humorous number that was enjoyed by all.

“Pierce was the principal trombone player for the Oregon Symphony for 45 years prior to his retirement in 2007. He continues to be active in musically related activities throughout the Portland area.”
