Letter: Kudos to Corps

Congratulations to John Cader, certified landscape technician, of the Tongue Point Job Corps.
I have just finished reading the article announcing his passing the rigorous CLT examination and field test (“Tongue Point student landscapes a design for his growing career,” The Daily Astorian, March 6). Being a CLT says you have met the high standards set by the Professional Landscape Network, PLANET.
Kris Saulsbury, landscape instructor at the Tongue Point campus, is dedicated to excellence. I know this first hand. During late 2007, one of Saulsbury’s students was able to intern with me at my landscape company.
During the three months he spent with me, he showed me he had the experience and training to perform the standard tasks on a landscape job. We performed maintenance on existing landscapes, attended to warranty issues and installed the landscape at The Red Building.
I support what the landscape program at the Job Corps is doing, and encourage the community to do the same. They are doing great things there.
