The Pet Works expands into Astoria

Eric and Rebecca Smith of Longview have recently expanded their business, The Pet Works, into the old Riverside Pets’ location in downtown Astoria.

Although new to the area, Eric said The Pet Works has a devoted Astoria fan base of pet lovers who have been making the trip to the Longview location for years.

“We have always loved Astoria and have seen a demand here for a full-line pet store,” said Eric. “We had been figuring out the details for awhile and were just looking for the right opportunity.”

That opportunity arose when the former owner of Riverside Pets, Linda Riness, decided to sell the business last November.

“I originally bought the business the day before last year’s December storm,” said Linda. “It seemed like I was playing catch-up ever since.”

The Pet Works has modeled its business around the concept that great pets make happy customers. In order to stay within that tradition, most of the fish, reptiles and birds come from local breeders who treat the animals like pets from birth. In order to keep customers happy, the store provides a knowledgeable staff and an exhaustive selection of pet-specific products.

“A pet store should be a place that kids and adults can get lost in,” said Eric. “We truly want our customers to have as much fun as possible, and leave with no stress or frustration.”

The Pet Works is a full-line pet store, offering reptiles, rodents, birds and fish, while providing supplies for just about any domestic animals. The store is located at 240 14th St. For more information call (503) 338-6721.
