Obituaries: Millard Lee Ledgerwood

Millard Lee Ledgerwood, 91, of Warrenton, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, in Clatskanie.

He was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Birch Tree, Mo., to Lee and Nova Ledgerwood. Also known as Stiffy, he spent his youth in Birch Tree and came to Oregon in 1940.

He married Lorene Ledgerwood, who survives.

Mr. Ledgerwood served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II.

He worked in the lumber industry and was a stockholder in Astoria Plywood. He retired in 1983.

Family members said he enjoyed traveling, especially by motor home, and had a passion for fishing and hunting. He was an avid sports fan and loved to attend high school ballgames. He loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kay Borra of California and Paula Pizer of Utah; a son, Dick Ledgerwood of Oregon; six grandchildren, Robin Sullivan of California, Renee Snyder of Oklahoma and David Searle, Carmen Posey and Robert and Richard Ledgerwood, all of Oregon; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Ruby Pierce of Missouri; and two brothers John Ledgerwood of Missouri and Dow Ledgerwood of Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clay, Bill, Lawrence and Henry Ledgerwood; and a sister, Edith Layman.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary. Burial will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. After the service, family and friends will be welcomed for refreshments at the Warrenton Community Center, 170 S.W. Third St. in Warrenton.
