SEASIDE – The recently opened Seaside Calvary Church is located at the corner of 16th Street and Roosevelt Drive in Seaside. Services are held at 6 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Wednesdays to provide an opportunity to worship for people working in the service industries who find it difficult to go to traditional Sunday morning services.

Seaside Calvary Church teaches through the Bible, verse by verse. The worship is contemporary with the worship team playing keyboard, guitar and percussion. The first service, held at 6 p.m. Nov. 22, attracted 55 people. Several of those attending are friends of Pastor Steve King and his wife, Kay, and are members of his home church, Coastline Christian Fellowship, located in Olney.

The Kings have owned a home in Seaside for more than seven years and have lived full time here for more than five years. King worked in the woods in the logging industry for four years in and around Coos Bay before joining the U.S. Air Force and serving for 10 years. The couple lived in Denver before moving to Seaside in 2002.

Steve King attended California Missionary Baptist Institute and Seminary. Prior to becoming pastor of Seaside Calvary Church, he taught the Bible at North Coast Christian School in Hammond for three years. Kay King currently teaches a Bible study class for women at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the couple’s home.

Seaside Calvary Church is currently unaffiliated, but has applied for affiliation with the Calvary Chapel movement.
