City issues warning about Williamsport Road closure

Because of construction activities for the city of Astoria’s Reservoir Covers and Flow Improvement Project, Williamsport Road will be closed from 15th Street and Niagara Avenue to the landfill entrance Monday through Friday next week.
The road closure will be 24 hours a day for the week.
This project involves the replacement of large diameter water pipelines and valves that serve the city’s Reservoir No. 2. The scope and complexity of the work requires that the intersection at 16th and James streets be excavated to the extent that safe passage for traffic is not possible during this phase of construction, officials said.
The public will need to use alternate routes around this area. All schedules are subject to change because of the weather. For information, call Astoria Public Works at (503) 338-5173.
Clatsop County Transportation and Development will be grading gravel roads in the Svensen/Knappa area next week. Other work includes culvert replacement on Taylorville Road and brush chopping in the Brownsmead and Lewis and Clark areas.
