Obituaries: Hazel A. Driscoll

Hazel A. Driscoll, 97, of Ocean Park, Wash., died Wednesday Oct. 18, 2008, in Astoria.
She was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Los Angeles, to Thomas and Anah (Bacon) Heron. Her father died three months before her birth. She was raised by her mother and stepfather. The family moved to Portland, where she attended school.
On April 2, 1928 she married Tom Driscoll in Vancouver, Wash. He preceded her in death in December 1994. The couple initially settled in Portland.
During World War II, Mrs. Driscoll worked as a welder at the Albina Shipyards in Portland. In 1946, the couple moved Ocean Park, Wash., where she worked for 14 years as a cook at the Ocean Park school. In 1960, the couple moved to Kelso, Wash. She returned to Ocean Park in the late 1970s.
She was a former member of the Kelso Assembly of God.
Family members said she took great pride in her family and in her pie-making skills and was an avid home canner.
She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Smith of Kalispell, Mont., Evelyn Lynn of Bakersfield, Calif., Lois Kaino of Hammond, Virginia Wilson of Chinook, Wash., and Beverly Johnson of Ocean Park and Tacoma, Wash.; a son, Les Driscoll of Ilwaco, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach, Wash.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Ilwaco Cemetery. A memorial will take place at 2 p.m. at Family Worship Center, 26310 Ridge Ave. in Ocean Park, with a reception following at the church.
